Somatic Therapy

In addition to talking, therapy can also involve listening — not just to your thoughts, but to your body.

Somatic therapy is a body-based approach that recognises trauma isn’t only held in the mind, but also in the nervous system. Drawing on the work of Dr. Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing) and Dr. Bessel van der Kolk (The Body Keeps the Score), somatic therapy helps you gently tune into physical sensations, breath, movement, and internal states to support healing from trauma and chronic stress.

Through guided awareness and grounding techniques, we work together to safely explore how your body responds to experiences, helping to release stuck survival energy, build a sense of internal safety, and restore nervous system balance.

Somatic work can be especially helpful if you:

  • Feel disconnected from your body or emotions

  • Struggle with anxiety, chronic tension, or dissociation

  • Find talking alone doesn’t quite reach what you’re feeling

  • Want to explore trauma in a gentle, body-aware way

You don’t need to have a deep understanding of your trauma story to begin this work. Just a willingness to be curious, kind, and patient with your body as it remembers how to feel safe again.
